SKI PASSES

You can buy your ski pass on the day, just before going up to the ski station, at the ticket office by the gondola or in advance through Vallnord and Grandvalira's websites. In Vallnord, full day ski passes cost 47eur at the ticket office or 44eur online. You can also get half day ski passes (valid between from 1pm to 5pm) for 42eur at the ticket office. If you're a beginner, you can save money by getting a beginners ski pass for 26eur which gives you access to a blue and a green run where beginners typically stay their first few days. Alternatively, some travel agents and hotels do bundles where you can save a bit of money. If you don't want to use the slopes but want to get the gondola to and from the base station, you can get a pedestrian pass for 15eur both in Pal and Arinsal.

Ski Passes

SKI HIRE

There are four ski and snowboard rental stores in Arinsal village and a further three at Arinsal station base. Usually, equipment hire is slightly more expensive at the base station. In addition, you can also rent lockers next to the gondola so you don't need to carry your equipment back to your accommodation if you prefer not to. You can rent your equipment in advance through their websites/contacts, as part of a package with your hotel or travel agent, or in person when you arrive to resort. Esports Sant Moritz has two stores in the village and one at the base station and they are offering an incredible 30% discount to all our event attendees! To get a promo code which you can use directly in their website or in person, contact us by email with the name on the ticket after you purchased it and we will send a special discount code to you!

Mobils

MOBILE PHONES

Andorra is NOT part of the EU or any EU roaming deal on most foreign operators so make sure to turn off your data and roaming before you cross the border!!! Be aware that the cost of roaming in Andorra is phenomenal so we strongly advise you to have your data and roaming turned off.

You can get by without mobile data in Andorra as every cafe and restaurant has wifi available to the public, as well as the most frequented streets in Andorra La Vella. However, if you want to be constantly connected and be able to use whatsapp anytime, you can get a local SIM card.
Andorra Telecom is the only phone network provider in the country. You can purchase a local SIM card as a tourist, however, you will need to get one from Andorra Telecom in Andorra La Vella or from a shop in La Massana called La Botiga (map available on their website). You can also get an eSIM card online from Andorra telecom, if your device is eSIM enabled, to avoid wasting time going to a shop. A Pay As You Go SIM card has no cost itself but you need to chose a tariff and pay for its first use. You can choose the S and M tariffs (9€ and 19€, respectively) and you can change between both at any time. The S tariff gives you 1Gb of data and 20 mins within Andorra and the M tariff provided you with 3Gb and 100mins within the country, both to be used within 4 weeks.

Drgs

DRUGS

ALL drugs are illegal in Andorra, including cannabis, and police do not take it lightly! Being
caught in the possession of drugs can lead to spending the night in jail and a ban from the
country for 2 years. Please, keep in mind you will have to cross at least two borders in order to arrive to Arinsal, so please, be respectful of the law. Aside from on-street cameras, there is also secret police around in bars, so we ask you to be mindful, respectful of the local laws, people, police and society!

Tax Free

TAX FREE ALCOHOL AND CIGARETTES

Andorra is well known for its low tax policies and so many visitors come from neighbouring
countries just to buy cheap Alcohol and Cigarettes! Don't worry about stocking up before you get here, make the most of it as it's extremely cheap in comparison to the UK!! If you look in the right places, you'll find 50g pouches of tobacco for 6 Euros, a litre of Vodka for 3.5 Euros and a 24 crate of beer for 6.75!!! However, keep in mind that as you go out of Andorra into France or Spain, the limit you can take is 1.5L of spirits over 22% (or 3L of liquors under 22% or sparking wine) plus 5L of table wine as well as 300 cigarettes or 150 cigars or 400g of rolling tobacco.

COSTS

Compared to the UK and the Alps, Andorra is very affordable. Prices vary according to where you go but, as a rough idea, a caña (half pint and most commonly form of draft beer in Andorra) is between 1.50€ and 3€, a cubata (spirit and mixer) between 5€ and 8€ and many bars have a happy hour!  You can get a pizza between 8€ and 12€ and a meal will cost you anywhere between 10€ and 30€, depending on the type of restaurant you chose.

Supermarkets

SUPERMARKETS

T
here are only two small supermarkets in Arinsal: St Moritz and Supermercat. Both are open 7 days a week until about 20h00/21h00. St Moritz has various British products while Supermercat is slightly cheaper for some products but also has a much more limited range. You can find larger supermarkets in La Massana (Garralla and Carrefour are next to the  Gondola from Pal ski station while Bon Area and Eleclerc are a 5-10min walk) which will offer greater variety and better prices.

HEALTH INSURANCE

Andorra and the UK do not have any health service agreement so you will have to pay for all your medical costs if you don't have a private health insurance. There is one hospital in Andorra and a strong relationship with Barcelona's Hospitals in case of greater, specialised emergencies. We highly recommend buying health travel insurance to minimise the chances of a ridiculous bill in case of illness or accident. You can buy health insurance for accidents on the slopes along with your ski pass, however, this will only cover you for rescue, immediate assistance and assistance on the slopes. Also, keep in mind that most travel health insurance need an add-on to cover for accidents while skiing/snowboarding.

Inurace
Pharmacy

PHARMACY

Be aware that there is no pharmacy in Arinsal. The closest pharmacies are located in La Massana, 1minute away from the Gondola from Pal ski station.

Buses

BUSES

In order to get to other villages or towns, you can get several buses that connect Arinsal to La
Massana and Andorra La Vella. The parish of Ordino is connected to La Massana and Andorra La vella while Grandvalira villages, towns and sectors are connected to each other and to Andorra La Vella. To go from Arinsal to the parish of Ordino, you need to change bus in La Massana and to go from Arinsal to Grandvalira you need to change in Andorra La Vella.

All information about schedules and routes are in this website -

Taxis

TAXIS

Taxis in Andorra all have a taximeter. They are generally white or Black and Green in colour and have a sign to identify themselves and their availability. They are very safe and usually very professional. There are a few different companies you can call, including:

Central de Taxi Andorra
+376 845 555

Taxi Bento Andorra
+376 324 060

Taxi Arinsal

+376 863 000
The app CitiXerpa is also available in Andorra and it allows you to book a Xerpa taxi at
sometimes better prices (off peak) than taxis.

Plug Sokets

PLUG SOCKETS

Plug sockets are the same as in continental Europe (Spain and France) called Euro-plug or
Type C. You will need a plug adaptor to use your British 3 pin plugs.

Safey

SAFETY

Andorra is the safest country in Europe and almost crime-free! Come and enjoy the amazing atmosphere and be completely relaxed! We ask you to bring nothing but good vibes and intentions to help us keep it one of the safest places on the planet! If you find someone else's lost property, please help us spreading the good vibes by returning it to its owner.

Service

SERVICE & TIPPING

The quality of service is usually quite good and tipping is not mandatory but typically practised to reward good service. Note that bar staff usually free pour drinks rather than using set measures, so if you want a weaker drink (not that it's likely!), make sure to mention it! We advise you to remember that, although Arinsal is cheap, we are at a high altitude and therefore the effects of alcohol will be far greater!

Hotels

HOTELS

Hotel quality and standards here are similar to the rest of continental Europe so make sure to look at amenities available (i.e. a kettle is not necessarily customary, check in/out times as well as breakfast are usually later, etc.).  Don't be necessarily put off by a 2 or 3 star hotel rating – these sometimes have more to do with the amenities and characteristics (such as spa availability, 24h reception or size of foyer) than quality itself. We strongly advise reading plenty of reviews and looking at photos to have a good sense of the offers available. Arinsal has a wide range of offers from cheap to expensive, 2 to 5 star, as well as apartments and rooms available on Air BnB.

Eatingout

EATING OUT

Arinsal and La Massana have plenty of restaurants offering a vast array of international and local cuisine and various levels of quality. There are some incredibly talented chefs around, so we strongly recommend you try some of these places, even if you are in self catering accommodation.

The local typical restaurants are called “Bordas” - these usually have rustic, traditional decoration and an open fire where they cook food. There is one offering amazing quality-price relationship in Arinsal, which we strongly recommend – it is called L'Hort de la Casa and it is located up the road, on a stand-alone house by the river, past Princesa Parc Hotel. The ladies at L'Hort de la Casa are extremely nice, the views from the terrace (weather permitting), quite pleasant and the food is absolutely delicious! There are also a few really nice bordas near Arinsal which are a little more elegant (and expensive). We recommend Borda Raubert, just before La Massana, for an “upper-mid level” meal and Borda de Xixerella, in the small village of Xixerella, for an elevated experience. If you don't have your own vehicle, you will need a short taxi ride to get to both. We also strongly recommend the restaurant L'Ensegur in Llorts, on the way to Ordino Arcalis as a modern, gourmet twist on traditional food but difficult to access without your own vehicle.

If you are more inclined towards world cuisine, Jose in California Grill and Giles, in Moli's are our favourite chefs in town. California Grill has a small menu of delicious Tex-Mex dishes (with Jose's own twist!) and Moli's (restaurant upstairs) specialises
in Asian and fusion cuisine as well as pizzas and the occasional Sunday roast and fish and chips.

If you want a big, gorgeous slab of meat, Surf restaurant is the place the go!! Specialising in Argentinian barbecue meat, this is an unforgettable, highly recommended experience for any big meat lover. Try the 'Vacio' for the biggest steak you've likely ever eaten for an unbelievably good price! “Doggy bags” are acceptable and encouraged, so if, you can't finish your meal, feel free to ask for a container to take away the rest (they'll probably offer, anyway!).

Coffee Mountain is open during the day time and serves our favourite coffee, cake and pastries in town. Carmen personally cooks and bakes her GORGEOUS cakes, quiches, empanadas (Argentinian pasties) and other dishes which we could not commend more! They also make sandwiches, salads and light bites. If you are looking for a smaller meal, breakfast or lunch.... or simply the best coffee and tea around, this is the place to go.

Another casual cafe/dining spot is Fugazzetta, slightly further down from the village centre. Here, you can try a good selection of superior beers, nice coffee and casual meals as well as hang around playing some of their board games. Rock up after 4pm and stock up on a good dose of "happy craze" by the lovely Rebecca Golan :-)

El Cabin is another one of our favourites with a varied menu including both local and international dishes – from tapas to "full on" three course meals. They have a lovely, sunny, riverside terrace open in the daytime and a cosy, super rustic and beautiful bar and dinning area inside that's not to miss!

If you are feeling "fancy" and would like a nice glass or bottle of wine to choose from a huge list of wines from all around the world, accompanied by a beautiful cheese or charcuterie board and a nice, quiet atmosphere, La Tasca is the place to visit.

Last, but not least, Cisco's Funky bar & restaurant is one of the most fun places to go for food around! With a "spicy" twist on everything they do - from quirky cocktails to sexy food - they specialise on world cuisine, particularly central/south american styles, and they are based in one of the most beautiful buildings in Arinsal.

Up on the ski slopes, there's plenty of bars and restaurants to eat and drink in. The prices are, however, generally more expensive and the menus a bit more limited, although you can chose from casual meals to fancy dinners. For casual dining we recommend the Derby Deli in Arinsal Station where Kevin will greet you with a smile. In Pal, we could not commend more the Creperie in at the station base for beers, soft drinks and lovely crepes – more affordable than Vallnord's restaurants. For more elegant endeavours on the slopes, Restaurant de Coll de La Botella and Cow Bella at the base, both in Pal sector. You can also book a night-time ski slope dinner experience both at Xalet Igloo (Arinsals sector) at Restaurant de Coll de La Botella (Pal sector)!

VEGETARIANS & VEGANS

As a mountain range location and deeply embedded in Spanish tradition, Andorra is a bit of a "meaty" place to eat and, historically, you could feel a little lost if you were looking for vegetarian options - particularly vegan! This has, however, been changing throughout the last few years and nowadays you can find enough options to keep you nourished throughout the week. All restaurants have somewhere between "lots" and "a few" vegetarian options (particularly, Cisco's, Molis and El Cabin) and if you are vegan, drop us an email or message and we will forward to you a comprehensive list of all the vegan meals available in Arinsal!
