TRAVEL INFORMATION
FLYING IN/OUT
The closest airports to our 2025 location are Santander (about 1h) and Bilbao (about 2h). You can also fly to Madrid but it would be a 5h drive and we wouldn’t advise you unless you rent a car after landing.
DRIVING
You can also drive all the way to Cantabria, although we kindly ask all our members that they run cars close to full capacity to decrease the environmental impact of the event! From the UK, you can either use the channel tunnel or direct ferries to Santander or Bilbao. Closer to the event dates, we will create an optional WhatsApp group where our members will be able to team up with others to ensure any vehicles are driven to full or near full capacity, as well as give you an opportunity to make joint accommodation and travel arrangements to decrease costs and footprint while, hopefully, increasing all the fun!
FROM SANTANDER or BILBAO TO MOUNTAIN BASS:
By car: There are car rental companies both in Santander and Bilbao airports as well as city centres. Usually Auto Europe and Honk Car Hire Global give you the best rates. If you are renting a car, reach out to us so we can explain different options of moving around roads and 4x4 tracks so you make the most appropriate rental choice for you and your budget. We kindly ask all our members that they run cars close to full capacity to decrease the environmental impact of the event, by teaming up with other members! We will create an optional WhatsApp group to enable teaming up for travel & accommodation.
By Bus: There are direct buses from Bilbao Airport and Bilbao city centre to Santander, roughly every hour, starting at about 7€. You can also get a direct bus from Santander Airport to Santander city bus station. For any of these trips, you can check schedules and prices on www.alsa.es. You can then continue your trip by local bus from Santander bus station to Potes, the main village of Picos de Europa, from 1€. You can check times using the App "Moovit". From Potes, you can get to Espinama ride sharing or using transport organised by us (at cost price) or taxi. If necessary, we will provide communal transport for members at cost price (total cost divided by those who need it) to ensure there is sufficient transport for everyone. If you are using transport arranged by us from Santander or Potes (TBC depending on numbers), you need to ensure you arrive and are ready to leave from Santander Airport by noon on Monday 9th of June and to reply to our "Travel & Transport email by end of April." Public transport is the most sustainable transport alternative to attend our event!

By private direct transfer: private direct airport transfers from Santander start at around 100€ and from Bilbao at around 200€. You can use https://gettransfer.com/ to find the best direct transfer deals. This is the least environmentally friendly travel option so we kindly ask members to avoid it unless completely necessary! If you use a transfer, please, ensure you share it with enough members to maximise their capacity in order to reduce our carbon footprint.
